About

honycmb w verseHi there! I’m Caroline Boykin. Degreed nutritionist turned organic soul foodie – because God’s Word is “sweeter than honey.”

Which reminds me to mention: I’m a wanna-beekeeper. My Williams-Sonoma top bar hive flashes a neon “vacant” sign, if you happen to know a brood looking for some upscale digs. Long live the queen!

My hubby and I have two darling daughters and a sweet son-in-law, and two Labradorable rescue pups. My youngest daughter turned 20 awhile back, which required us to jump out of a perfectly good airplane to commemorate the milestone. What a mom won’t do. Right?

Here’s what makes me smile:
Maxwell House Breakfast Blend from my slow-drip coffee maker – I’m standing my “grounds” against java snobbery; a child reciting Scripture by heart; Ruth Bell Graham’s poetry; Soma Cardigan Pajama Sets (which I deem “loungewear” due to their pockets. Completely acceptable after 4pm weekdays, all day weekends.); family hikes in Colorado; running Arbor Hills Nature Preserve with my eyes fixed on a steeple cross in the distance; Fernando Ortega on Pandora; lively dinner conversation; my folk duo daughter and her hubby leading worship; the right verse popping into my mind at the right time.

Here’s what makes me laugh:
Kristen Wiig as The Target Lady (“It’s legit!!”); awkward family photos; singing conversations with my daughter in operatic voices (think, Phantom of the Opera); donning turkey hats at the Houston Turkey Trot (drumstick headbands are now an approved alternative); Puddy on Seinfeld; thinking I could climb the Manitou Incline – no problem (“Hiking the trail should not be undertaken by the physically unfit.” -Wikipedia).

Here’s what makes me tick:
In three words – faith, hope, and love (cliché, yes – but it keeps me going); God’s grace – the stuff that turns our mess into our message, trials to triumphs, dross to gold; living with open arms to the prodigals; advocating for abused and neglected children (I’m a CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocate) small victories that propel me forward; an impossibility made possible through Christ (the “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” marvels); compassion and empathy; God’s “precious and very great promises;” kindly answered prayers; new Bible discoveries that make me ooh and awe; early and life-long Scripture memory.

About Well-Versed Living

Well-Versed Living was founded out of my passion for early and life-long Bible memory. This is my humble cyber home. The place I dish up organic inspiration and homegrown tips and tools – seasoned with grace and served on platters of compassion. Sort of like a smorgasbord to nourish your soul and fuel your walk with God and one another…

…cause like my ‘ole pal reminds me now and then – “we’re  all just walking each other home.”

I hope, here and there, you may find in this blog something written just for you.

Learn.  Link.  Live God’s Word!

In my book, The Well-Versed Family: Raising Kids of Faith Through Scripture Memory (2nd Ed.), I explain 3 keys for successful memorization:

1. Repetition and Review (Learn)
2. Association and Connection (Link)
3. Application (Live)

Each of the 3 keys is validated by sound memory-study research. And they work! So to simplify, I created the tag line: Learn. Link. Live God’s Word.

My WVL Devo posts will likely include:

  • A memory tip for LEARNING
  • A song, picture, activity, or mnemonic device for LINKING
  • And/or an idea for LIVING the verse that very day

I’d love to hear from you!

If you’ve got a question, comment, or picture or story of you/your family learning, linking, or living God’s Word, email me at caroline@wellversedliving.comI’ll get back with you.

Welcome to Well-Versed Living!! I’m so glad you’re here.
Caroline
